The increasing severity of the consequences of climate change – and in particular those linked to the urban heat island effect – calls for a profound structural transformation of our urban planning models. Urban cooling, beyond simply ensuring comfort, is essential to safeguarding public health and preparing for climate change mitigation and adaptation measures in the years to come. ADEME’s opinion is set out in six key messages designed to guide public policy, prevent inappropriate investment and bring about a sustainable evolution in adaptation strategies to safeguard our living environments.
