Household packaging and Graphic papers: data 2024

 6,345 kt of household packaging and graphic papers were placed on the market in 2024. In the same year, 4,893 kt were sorted for recycling, making a recycling rate of 69.6% for household packaging and 59.0% for graphic papers.

A total of 2,166,229,429 reused household packaging units were reported in 2024, taking the reuse rate to 1.59%.

The household packaging and graphic papers EPR scheme has gradually expanded in scope since it was first created, following the merging in 2024 of the household packaging scheme (set up in 1993) and the graphic papers scheme (2006). It now covers packaging used to market products consumed or used by households, as well as printed papers (other than books) and graphic papers for end users that produce household and similar waste.

This report takes stock of the household packaging and graphic papers (‘EMPAP') EPR scheme in France in 2024, based on the information gathered via the SYDEREP reporting system put in place by ADEME. The 2023 data presented take into account any adjustments made by the producer responsibility organisations in respect of the previous year.

In addition to presenting an overview of the sector as a whole, it assesses progress made in achieving the targets set by the EPR scheme specifications and makes a qualitative analysis of the scheme’s data and performance in light of these targets.
