Since 2008, the study « Markets and employment contributing to the energy transition » of ADEME (M&E) observe more than thirty sectors split into three main fields: Renewable Energies (RE); Energy-efficient and low-emitting land transports; Residential building.
For each sector, the study quantifies the markets (expressed in M€) and the associated directs employment (expressed in Full-Time Equivalent - FTE) in France.
Depending on the sector studied, the market can be broken down into five main segments:

  • Manufacturing of equipment in France (for domestic or export market);
  • Equipment sales;
  • Construction of production units and infrastructure, installation of equipment, connection, renovation work;
  • Projects development, preliminary studies, realization of the energy performance diagnosis (EPD) of buildings;
  • Domestic sales of energy, operation-maintenance of equipment and installations.

It should be noted that, for the land transports sector, operation-maintenance markets and associated jobs are not estimated in this study.
Furthermore, an evolution trajectory aligned with public policies objectives is estimated for markets and jobs up to 2023. To do so, we rely on the objectives of the 2nd Pluriannual Energy Program 2019-2028 (PPE2) and the 2nd National Low-Carbon Strategy (SNBC2). The markets and jobs corresponding to these objectives are compared with current trends in the various sectors concerned, based on a preliminary estimate for 2022 calculated on the basis of the first available datas.
