Présentation

Three billion packets of medicine were placed on the French market in 2024, by 220 medicine market authorisation holders. On average, each French household holds approximately 460 grammes of unused medicines (UNM), making an estimated annual total volume of 9,960 tonnes. 7,675 tonnes were collected in the 20,400 pharmacies across France, taking the UNM collection rate to 77.1% in 2024.

This report takes stock of the unused medicines EPR scheme in France, on the basis of the information gathered via the SYDEREP reporting system put in place by ADEME, complemented by data supplied by scheme actors.

It presents a review of the quantities of products placed on the market and of waste collected and treated, along with a qualitative analysis of the data and the scheme’s performance in light of the targets set by its accreditation specifications.
