Update of the non-metallic content of reusable ELV (End-of-life vehicle) parts

Update of the non-metallic content of reusable ELV (End-of-life vehicle) parts

Présentation

ADEME must verify annually that the end-of-life vehicle centres meet the legal targets of 3,5 % reuse and recycling of non-metallic materials. Regarding the specific monitoring of reuse operations, two elements must be measured separately from the annual declarations made by ELV centres to ADEME on the number of reusable parts (REP) marketed:

  • The average unit weight of REP
  • The proportion of non-metallic material contained in each type of REP

As in 2014, ADEME wanted to organise a campaign to weigh all the REP sold by a sample of 10 ELV centres proposed by the two main professional representatives of ELV centres (Federec and Mobilians). This campaign took place over three months, from 13 March to 16 June 2023, and weighed 85 985 REP, equivalent to approximately 960 tonnes.

The percentage of non-metallic material contained in the reusable parts was defined by type of parts, as well as the composition of the non-metallic material constituting the parts.

The results of this study are captured in a report, a synthesis and an Excel document with detailed information by type of parts.
