Study on remanufacturing

Study on remanufacturing

Présentation

In recent years, the government, ADEME and manufacturers have taken numerous measures to change the paradigm and move from a linear consumption economy to a circular economy, making it possible to reduce the quantities of waste produced, increase the use and life span of products, reduce the waste of raw materials and create value. France intends to confirm its commitment as a forerunner in this field and in February 2020 took a new decisive step with the publication of its law in favour of circular economy (AGEC).
After a number of action plans implemented to encourage the development of recycling, repair, reuse and maintenance, ADEME is more specifically interested in the concept of remanufacturing, which the United Nations Environment Programme describes as follows: "While recycling only retains the value of the recycled materials or resources, value-retention processes (such as remanufacturing or refurbishment) allow for the retention of value inherent in the product.
In addition to the studies already carried out to support the deployment of national policies in favour of more responsible modes of production and consumption, ADEME wishes to deepen its knowledge on remanufacturing. The aim is to draw up an inventory of existing practices in France, Europe and the rest of the world, taking all industrial sectors together, to learn from initiatives that work in order to identify the obstacles and levers and to reflect on possible courses of action to promote the development of remanufacturing in France.
