In 2023, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes in France accounted for the placement of 152 million tonnes of products on the market, with 12.6 million tonnes collected and 8.2 million tonnes recycled.
The EPR system requires economic operators (manufacturers, distributors, importers) placing on the market products that generate waste to take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of these products, from eco-design to end-of-life.
EPR schemes cover both household and professional products. This document outlines the main development for EPR schemes in 2024, and provides a summary of the situation in France based on 2023 data reported in 2024.
