How can we define sufficiency in the context of urban planning, construction and real estate? What obstacles do these more sufficient approaches face? How do successful real estate and land sufficiency initiatives manage to overcome these obstacles? This report analyses the economic models of 17 real estate and land sufficiency initiatives. The study also highlights the conditions for replicating these initiatives: training of ‘Swiss Army knife’ project managers, standardisation of bespoke solutions to limit additional costs, and the key role of local authorities, which need to be made more aware of these new economic models. It is also necessary to find ways in which these new methods of housing creation can contribute to the financing of public facilities. Finally, changes in the methods of public financing for real estate (aligning policies to support the production of new housing with those concerning new housing, financing based on a type of project rather than a type of structure, etc.) are also recommended.
