CARDIOX : Cardiovascular effects of traffic-related air pollution
Inhalation study in rat of NO2 alone or in diesel engine emissions
Présentation
The objective of this project was to demonstrate the effects on the cardiovascular system of NO2 alone or as a mixture with other gaseous pollutants emitted by a Euro 4 Diesel engine equipped with a particulate filter. The pollutant emissions, diluted by a factor of 11, were taken upstream and downstream of the particulate filter to assess its impact. The work was organized around four main tasks:
- exposure of animals (Wistar rats) and characterization of Euro 4 diesel engine emissions,
- evaluation of cardiac and mitochondrial function,
- evaluation of cardiac remodeling
- evaluation of the global and genome-wide cellular response.
The results are presented and analyzed by considering single (3 hours) or repeated (3 hours / days and 5 days / week for three weeks) exposures to NO2 or all pollutants.
