This document presents the France's Stratégic Investment Programme (Programme d'investissements d'avenir -PIA) wich was created by the French government in 2O1O, to stimulate innovation and investment in France. Possessing technical, economic and financial expertise in the complex markets of the energy and environmental transition, ADEME was chosen as the operator of two leading segments of this programme : Energy and environmental transition demonstrators and Transport and vehicles of the future.

Requests for Proposals (RFP) in these areas are designed to stimulate innovation, and to support and accompany companies as they bring innovative solutions to market.
This financial tool targets over 20 technical areas, grouped in four major categories :

" renewable energy production, energy storage and smart power grids
" energy efficiency in buildings, industry, agriculture, and green chemicals
" the circular economy and waste management
" all aspects of transport and mobility

For seven years now France's Strategic Investment Programme Programme d'investissements d'avenir (PIA) has created a dynamic movement for innovation among actors in the economy that drive the energy and environmental transition. The programme has
demonstrated its capacity to mobilise companies to move into promising market segments and to act as a strong catalyst for green growth, by funding innovation projects of all sizes. The investments aim to nurture, structure and develop the industrial value chains of tomorrow and to foster the emergence of new markets. The projects funded are often mounted by consortiums or partnerships of companies; they open the way to new business models and are a genuine opportunity for growth and job creation across the national territory. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are often the driving force behind innovation, as seen in the success of the SME Initiative (Initiative PME, IPME). The French government has renewed the mission entrusted to ADEME, and this dynamic movement will continue in coming years under PIA 3 (2017-2020).
